Book Review – To Wee or Not to Wee!

wee

Title: To Wee or Not to Wee!

Author: Pamela Butchart

Illustrator: Thomas Flintham

Four hilarious retellings of Shakespeare’s plays by the Blue Peter Award-winning duo Pamela Butchart and Thomas Flintham. Macbeth – battles, gore, excellent witches and even walking trees! A Midsummer Night’s Dream (a man with a donkey’s head called Bottom!), Romeo and Juliet (kissing – eew!) and Hamlet (who left that skull lying about?)

Pamela Butchart and Thomas Flintham have done it yet again! This is a fantastic pairing in my eyes and one we all love at the Book Centre! Following the same characters we have come to love in Baby Aliens Got My Teacher, The Spy Who Loved School Dinners, My Headteacher is a Vampire Rat! and Attack of the Demon Dinner Ladies we are taken through four retellings of Shakespeare. Izzy’s versions strip the original stories down to the core and likens her friends and situations to that of Macbeth, Hamlet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Romeo & Juliet.

We are given all the typical traits of Shakespeare: love, poison, tragedy and a few new things thrown into the mix such as bogey fingers and of course the ultimate question, ‘to wee or not to wee?’ This is another winning formula for me and a great addition to not only the classroom but a fabulous way to introduce Shakespeare to a new generation.
